Bloody hell!

Pardon the pun, but a dead 50 ton whale that beached itself in Taiwan exploded yesterday as it was being transported to a research facility, showering passers-by in dead whale and blood.

I think this is the first known episode of terrorism conducted by nature — casts a new light on the term “suicide bomber”…

Let loose the hounds of work!

And so it begins! I sent off my first job application today, to a job I swear I saw a month ago, and it’s probably been filled and they forgot to pull it from the site… whatever, it’s cool, and you have to be in it to win it.

In other news, freelance gig is over! Finally. Closure is bliss. Not that I didn’t enjoy doing it, but after all this time I’m really ready to do something else. But, it’s over now (although I think I found a bug last night — leaving it for tomorrow to confirm. I need off time).

I’m giving GarageBand a good workout, got some cool ideas recorded already. I still suck at lyrics though, it’s a bit limiting, I need to find someone that’s good at that stuff. I dunno what it is about lyrics that I find so hard to write, but then I can’t seem to appreciate poetry in any way, that might be a factor. It has been said that one can’t be good at everything, but what do they know?

Job Hunting, Freelancing, GarageBand and overused Bryan Adams lyrics

1. “…played it ’til my fingers bled, it was the summer of…”

2. yah, over it. How low must one stumble to quote Bryan Adams lyrics? Not because the song sucks (I quite like the song actually), but it’s just a wee bit tired, a bit overused, a bit old.

3. Quite unlike GarageBand.

4. GarageBand is, in several words, fuckin’-a-plus-brilliant! You get funky loops. And lots of them. You get really nice sounding Software Instruments, and quite a few of them. You get really, really great sounding effects. And lots of them. One of those is Guitar Amp Simulation, and it sounds awesome! And having spent the better half of today using it, I can tell you it’s piss easy to use, relatively fast (on a 867mhz 12in Powerbook with 640mb RAM) and very stable.

5. Best of all, it costs a measly $79 (Australian, US $49), and as a bonus you get all the other iLife programs as well!

6. (I admit, I may see iLife 04 a little differently to most.)

7. I wish I had this when I was at high school, I might’ve stuck with music a bit longer. My fingers hurt from playing so much, even typing this is giving them grief. There’s even a bit of talk about getting the old band back together to record all the old songs, or at least those that we remember. The only downside is that this really makes my computer the centrepiece of my life — now I really don’t think I can live without this thing!

8. It’s also another distraction from job hunting, which for me is more like job-toe-dipping-into-the-water. With a certain freelance gig still unfinished (but not for long!), and my rock-star aspirations flaring incandescent I may not have time to find a real job.

9. Though I sure need a haircut.

When Grown Men Whine

Oh, the melodrama!

All this over Foo Camp!

I think it’s a great idea. Collaboration, I think, is the key to genuinely creative thinking, and in a world where specialisation is the norm, fusion of individual ideas into one Great Idea can only come about through conversation. Any effort to bring brilliant people together and foster an environment that may create the next Great Idea should be applauded.

No sir, you are not entitled to see your results

Due to my uni’s new privacy policy, I, as an ex-student:

Now what the fuck do I have to do to check my fucking results? Sue the uni under freedom of information act…?

The first thing I do for the new year is to finish my portfolio. Certainly getting off on the right foot I think!
