17hrs to Go!
1. Wheeeee! I’ve been frantically packing for my trip, sorting out how I was going to get to the airport and all that. All day I had been trying not to think about my trip, because I was (and still very likely) to explode with anticipation. I haven’t been on a plane for ages, and not one that went international for ever… just can’t wait!
2. I’ve even found the place where we will be spending most of out time, an island called Bunaken off the coast of North Sulawesi. Check it out here on Google Maps. It’s the island in the middle that, depending on your point of view, looks like a T-Bone steak or a Playstation controller. I’ll leave it up to you.
3. I’ll be trying maintain email/blog contact, but I’ll only be gone 16 days so I can’t imagine I’ll have all that much time. I’ll post some photos when I can.

Awww, Bennie Smith is sad
1. Bennie Smith, a DoubleClick executive, “warns” in this article that if people keep blocking his company’s ads then it would spell the end of free content on the internet. Which is interesting, because Google’s internet ads revenue seems to be spanking along just fine, so I wonder why people are blocking DoubleClick’s ads? Is it because they are FUCKING ANNOYING BANDWIDTH HOGGING POPUPS?

Sneaky bastards
1. I remember a time, before the invasion of The Great Unwashed, where the internet was a place of tranquility and mannered folk, where Netiquette was important and business hadn’t a clue what the internet was. After the invasion the internet changed from a place with nice folk who you could trust with your children to a dirty place where you’re constantly assaulted with stuff that you really don’t care for. The rude bastards. Bit like these guys running this blog, where for a post quite some time ago they decided to link directly to an image I have hosted here for this post. Now I understand that the internet is made up of such links, but the buggers linked only to the image, and did not link back to my blog as the source of the image, so every time someone looks at that post it’s downloading from my server.
2. Bandwidth. Stealing. Fuckers.
3. But aside from that, it’s a stupid practice because I could just swap the image for whatever I like, as I had done so. Have a look at the post here (warning, it’s a fairly unsavory pic I posted. No, it’s downright disgusting). Leave a comment, tell them how big a fucktard they are.

Dell is interested in selling Mac OS X
1. …according to this article from Fortune.com. Bit like you wanted to sell computers with AMD chips eh? Dell would only sell it until Microsoft offered them a cheaper deal on Windows, just like Intel did for their CPUs which ousted AMD from the race. And no doubt every other computer manufacturer would do the same — it’s business, after all.

That’s. Fucking. Creepy.
1. Check this out!
2. My God, I don’t think I have been that creeped out by a website since some smartarse sent me this joke (look closely at the picture, there’s something wrong with it that should become apparent after a minute or so).
3. I won’t spoil the surprise.

Why you should never rely on camera reviews
1. Because this sort of crap still floats around (PC Magazine):
We love the D70s’ feel and design as much as we did the D70’s, and for those with larger hands, these two models may be preferable to the lighter Canon Rebel XT. The Rebel XT, however, ups the capacity ante to 8MP, which gives you the ability to print very large images, still besting the 6.1MP Nikons. The Canon kit (lens and body) is also cheaper than the D70s kit, although the Nikon lens is longer.
2. “Capacity ante”? Maybe they meant the higher file size filling up more of the memory card. Because, you know, the, uhm, bigger the file, the bigger the photo, the bigger you can print it, right?

Weather forecast in Hell, a chilly 3 degrees
1. I’m going ice skating in hell today. Apple, after years and years and years and years and years of rumours, are finally going to use Intel processors. Wait, let me let it out.
2. OMGWTF!!?!?!?!??!!?!?!!1!!!?!!!!
3. Right. As the Reverend Steve explains, the PowerPC roadmap is going nowhere (sorry Mac freaks, that G5 PowerBook is nowhere in sight), and Intel has a strong processor roadmap. And Intel chips run cooler for the same performance. So, I guess my next PowerBook upgrade will be the Pentium M, which isn’t such a bad thing — thems are great processors. A fast PB with 8hr battery life? Bring it on.
4. (Oh God, Dvorak got something right, and everyone else will be eating crow…!)

Apple and Intel to marry, ‘06, in World of C|crap
1. CNet’s News.com.com.com.com, the last bastion of insanely great tech journalism, is running a report that states Apple will announce a move to Intel chips from 2006 at Steve Job’s Keynote at the WWDC. I, for one, thinks it’s true, and we’ll finally see Macs with Intel chips. You heard it here first.
2. Nah, I’m just kidding. Unless Apple unveils the greatest PPC emulator of all time (that doesn’t run as badly as “Classic” did), and Intel pulls out the most insanely fast Pentium of all time, everyone will have to buy their software all over again. And that would suck.
3. Of course, it could be true. Maybe Intel has a kickarse PowerPC chip in the works that no one knows about that is a plug in replacement for the G5. Or Steve is bored with Apple and wants to commit specacular corporate suicide then make an animated film about it. Or Apple “leaked” this as smoke cover for something truly spectacular — like, say, the iTunes Movie Store.
UPDATE 5/6/05: The best angle yet on the Apple/Intel business, Apple coming out with an Airport Express style device that streams video to a TV using Intel’s WiMAX solution. With iTunes looking after video now, and this being The Year of HD, this makes a whole lot more sense.
UPDATE 5/6/05, addendum: A couple of people mentioned on Slashdot (I know, I know) that Apple owns significant portions of IBM IP relating to the G5, so it’s possible that Intel is just producing chips for Apple. Also, this person on Slashdot argued that Apple may be using Itanium, which seems unlikely. Why would you put a fat server chip in a Mac mini?
UPDATE 7/6/05: Holy shit!
