Soybean Sports Car

1. This is awesome, a bunch of American high school kids built a soybean-fuelled sports car that does 0-100km/h in 4 seconds (think Porsche 911 Turbo S) but also good for 50 miles to the gallon (about 4.7L/100km, or about the same fuel consumption as a VW Polo Diesel). Nothing about it is revolutionary — I’m betting it’s powered by a diesel engine modified to take soybean oil, and it probably doesn’t weigh very much. Nor is it very practical — the amount of land that would be needed to grow soybeans to make enough fuel to power the world would be stupendous. But if five high school students could do this for a school project, what could five talented automotive engineers do with the resources of a massive multinational car firm?

2. Put a handful of talented bodies in a room, remove the politics, and amazing things happen.
